These are the 5 steps to make one of our bags:
STEP 1: Weaving
Some of our cotton fabrics are handwoven in a loom by Mexican artisans in the state of Mexico.
STEP 2: Shibori
We use Shibori and woven shibori techniques to create different designs & patterns. Shibori is an ancient art originally from Japan, where the fabrics are folded or stitched to create different design and patterns.
STEP 3: Dyeing
All the dyeing is done by us in our studio in Mexico City, where we dye all our cotton fabrics with natural dyes. We use specially indigo, cochineal & avocado pits. In some of our products, leather is also dyed with natural dyes ( indigo & eco-print)
STEP 4 : Sewing
The sewing is made by Sra. Lulu and Sr. Paco Aviles in the state of Mexico. They are both experts in leather sewing.
STEP 5 : Bags
All these different process, materials and people are involved in the making of a ZIKURI bag. It is a long process that requires patience and time.
